  • Submission Period

    All year round.

    The renewal application must be submitted within three months prior to the expiration of the title.

    The request for modification must be submitted within three months of the date on which the circumstances change.

    Title classified as a special category due to annual income, the application for renewal or modification must be submitted in the month prior to the end of the validity period.
  • Purpose

    Procedure for the recognition and loss of large family status, the issuance, renewal, modification and extinction of the large family title and individual large family cards, within the framework of the basic legislation of the State.

  • Eligible Beneficiaries

    Large families. Any ascendant, or another member of the family unit with sufficient legal capacity, may apply.

    Those who are guardians or custodians, and those who are caring for people in permanent foster care or under guardianship for adoption purposes, may also apply, provided they live with them and are financially dependent on them.

  • Requirements

    CONCEPT OF LARGE FAMILY 
     
    • One or two ancestors with three or more children, whether or not they are common.
    • One or two ascendants with two children, whether or not they are joint parents, provided that at least one of them is disabled or unable to work.
    • Two ascendants, when both are disabled, or at least one of them has a disability level equal to or greater than 65 percent, or is unable to work, with two children, whether or not they share common property.
    • A separated or divorced father or mother with three or more children, whether or not they are joint parents, even if they are in different family units, provided they are financially dependent on the father or mother, even if they do not live in the marital home.

    In the event that the parents do not agree on which children should be considered in the family unit, the criterion of cohabitation will apply.

    • Two or more orphaned siblings under guardianship, foster care, or custody who live with the guardian, foster parent, or custodian, but are not at their expense.
    • Three or more orphaned siblings over the age of 18, or two if one of them is disabled, who live together and are financially dependent on each other.

     A father or mother with two children, when the other parent has died.

    Children or siblings must meet the following conditions:

    a) Be single and under 21 years of age, or be disabled or incapable of employment, regardless of their age.

    This age limit will be extended to 25 years of age (inclusive) when they are pursuing studies considered appropriate for their age and qualifications or leading to employment.

    b) Live with the ascendant(s), without prejudice to the provisions of Article 2.2.c) of Law 40/2003, of November 18, in the event of separation of the ascendants. In all cases, it will be understood that a temporary separation due to studies, work, medical treatment, rehabilitation, or other similar reasons does not disrupt the cohabitation between parents and children, under the terms established by regulations.

    c) Be financially dependent on the ascendant(s).

  • Required Documentation

    MANDATORY DOCUMENTATION:

    1. For the issuance of the title (Articles 5 and 6):

    Generally (Article 5):

    1. Application signed by the interested party (Annex I).
    2. Identification document: DNI/TIE/NIE/Passport or identity document from the country of origin/Family member card of a member of the EU, EEA, and Switzerland, for all members of the corresponding family unit by nationality.
    3. Family ties: Family book/Birth certificates of sons and daughters/similar documentation if not holding Spanish nationality and, where applicable, marriage certificate.
    4. Residence and cohabitation: Individual registration certificate for all members of the family unit/Collective registration certificate and, where applicable, Certificate of registration in the Central Registry of Foreigners/Family reunification visa/Certificate of employment or self-employment in Extremadura/Declaration of responsibility (Annex III)
    5. Economic dependency in the family unit: Personal Income Tax Return or Express authorization to consult tax data (Annex IV)/Certificate of Personal Income Tax allocations or Declaration of responsibility regarding cohabitation and economic dependency (Annex II).

    Exceptionally (Art. 6):

    1. If applicable, a court declaration of death.
    2. If applicable, a separation/divorce/annulment decree and a court ruling/regulatory agreement/similar documentation.
    3. If applicable, a court or administrative ruling certifying guardianship, custody, permanent foster care, or delegation of guardianship for adoption purposes.
    4. If applicable, a certificate of disability or dependency. Official certificate of the degree of disability or incapacity ruling.

    2. For degree renewal (Article 8):

    1. Renewal application (Annex I).
    2. Declaration of responsibility (Annex III).
    3. Express authorization to consult tax information (Annex IV).
    4. Documentation proving continued educational requirements.
    5. If applicable, documentation proving continued studies (if requested by children over 21 and under 26).
    6. If applicable, new documentation regarding disability, dependency, or family situation.

    3. For the modification of the title (Article 8):

    1. Renewal application (Annex I).
    2. Declaration of responsibility (Annex III).
    3. Express authorization to consult tax information (Annex IV).
    4. Documentation justifying the change (birth of a new child, death, change of custody, etc.).
    5. If applicable, new supporting documentation (judgements, certificates, etc.).

    OPTIONAL DOCUMENTATION (depending on the case):

    • Income certificate or tax return, if requested for economic reasons (for example, in cases of joint custody).
    • Academic documentation, if requesting a degree extension for studies.
    • Agreement between parents in the case of joint custody to determine who will hold the degree.
    • Authorization for representation, if the application is submitted by another person on behalf of the interested party.
